Help needed!
 Goornong Primary School Sustainability Centre
(Chook Camp)

Every Monday, the students have been attending Garden Science classes. The students have been busy sprucing up the garden, planting herbs and vegetables as well as pruning the orchard. The school community would welcome any donations of seeds, seedlings, plants, garden art, garden seats or benches, old lucerne hay and expertise. We also would appreciate donations of herbs or cottage garden plants.

As part of the development of the centre, we would also like to decorate the garden fence with the following wooden words “Welcome to our Garden” which the students will paint with bright colours.

Timber suitable for outdoors that can be cut easily or advice on what timber would suit

Someone who can cut the letters (20 cm high) for example on a jig saw. Spare cans of undercoat, bright outdoor paint and sealant would be appreciated.

If you can help by supplying the following, please contact

Felicity Nicholls on 5432 2450 or 0429 322 450.

Adopt a fire plug
Located on or near nature strips throughout the area are fire plugs or pillar ball fire hydrants.
Should a fire break out it is essential that fire-fighters can gain access to these plugs and hydrants to ensure an adequate supply of water.
As a resident you can help by adopting’ the hydrant near your property.
Each hydrant should have a white post
with a blue reflective marker on it

If the passing road is sealed there should also be a blue reflective marker glued onto the road surface. You can help by making sure the above are in place.

Please keep grass and soil clear from the top of the ground ball covers and do not landscape over them. Keep bushes and undergrowth clear from around the hydrant. Also, ensure that no vehicle parks over the top, restricting access.
If the post or road marker is missing or if there are any faults or damage to youradopted fire hydrant—please contact

Dogs wandering the district
Dog owners have an obligation to ensure their dogs are kept on their property and do not escape and wander.

From time to time reports of dogs wandering on the Fosterville Gold Mine are made by staff, and despite efforts to locate owners- they are rarely identified.  .Farmers in our district are also concerned with wandering dogs and last year a number of sheep were mauled and killed by dogs.

Please ensure your dogs are restrained or do not leave your property.  Fosterville Gold Mine and Parks Victoria lay baits in the area for foxes and these of course are poisonous to dogs.

If you are aware of dogs wandering in the district please report to City of Greater Bendigo so the dogs can be removed.  The most recent sightings have been of a Kelpie, Border Collie and Jack Russell often wandering together.
